Kentucky Bourbon Whisky
Barrel Finished with Oak Staves
47% ABV (94 proof)
~$35

Color: medium brown with flecks of gold

Smell: pleasing but mild baking spice cabinet nose of cinnamon and cloves, dusted on top of sweet gingerbread cookies. Once it sits for a while, the more typical barrel-driven vanilla and caramel "bourbony" aromas also come into the picture.

Taste: pleasing but muted on the palate. Smooth, smooth sipper, but there's not a ton of flavor. Mild general sweetness on entry, virtually nothing on the midpalate, and then I get a little bit of cinnamon the baking spice and just a hint of toasted oak on the finish, but both are short lived and dissipate very quickly.

Overall: I'm a little torn here. On the one hand, there's nothing really wrong with this whisky. It's super smooth and pleasant - clearly they've designed this optimally for mass appeal. On the other hand, nothing jumps out in terms of flavor, and it fades away in a hurry. "B-/B" for me, and I'd advise you to find your flavors elsewhere.
