2 Gingers
Blended Irish Whiskey
40% ABV
~$25 (sample provided)
Color: pale straw gold
Smell: soft, and really pretty lovely. Definite malt backbone with big accents of honey. It reminds me a lot of the Kilbeggan from yesterday (which makes sense, considering that I think it's from the same distillery), but the 2G is smoother on the nose.
Taste: soft and pleasant, but not very complex. I get a nice honeyed sweetness upfront, the malty notes coming in the midpalate, and then a short finish that is smoothly sweet - honey again.
Overall: this is a pretty good whiskey, but it's not that challenging. The smoothness is notable, and the sweet honey flavors aren't overpowering. Instead, they're framed nicely by the malty notes. I would recommend this as a relatively budget-friendly Irish whiskey alternative to Jameson. Well-balanced and fine for cocktails, ice, and even solo sipping.
