Green Spot
Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey
Triple Distilled Irish Whiskey
40% ABV (80 proof)
~$45 (sample taken from Dad's house)
Color: bright yellow/gold, with flecks of sediment.
Smell: really nice...there's a lot going on here. Tons of maltiness, along with citrus zest and a strange nutty quality. To me, it smells like a combination of Jameson and the forest floor: sweet, woody, a bit nutty, and certainly herbal.
Taste: pleasing rounded malty sweetness on entry. The midpalate brings in more of the wood influence and nuttiness, but it's balanced and rolls on nicely, building on the grain sweetness. The finish is medium-short, featuring woodiness and a little bit of lingering chamomile tea.
Overall: I like this a lot. The sherry influence really elevates this expression, complementing the base grain sweetness with herbal and nutty flavors. B/B+, and a reasonably good value. It won't blow you away with complexity at 80 proof, but it's worth trying and I recommend it.
