Evan Williams Black

Evan Williams

Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Genuine Sour Mash/Extra Aged/Charcoal Filtered
43% ABV
Cheap; should be able to find it for about $15/liter

Color: light brown/orange. It looks darker in the bottle than in the glass, likely due to the black label.

Smell: pretty nice nose, not hot at all. I definitely get some maple syrup/brown sugar smells, along with a little bit of a cinnamon kick.

Taste: general sugar/syrup sweetness upfront, and then the transition brings in a little corniness. The finish falls apart for me a bit - it dissipates quickly and doesn't incorporate much in the way of spice or complexity.

Overall:  very smooth drinking, but not overly complex. To me, it's a little watery and thin on the palate and doesn't quite live up to the nose. Specifically, the finish just isn't there - the nose suggests sweetness and a cinnamon kick, and on the palate you get a flash of sweetness, a little corniness, and that's about it. Still, this is $15 for a liter(!) of pretty damn good bourbon. Highly recommended for cocktails, and you could do a lot worse for a daily sipper. I vastly prefer this to the recently reviewed AAA10.
