Crown Royal
Cornerstone Blend
Blended Canadian Whisky
40.3% ABV (80.6 proof)
~$60 (sample provided)
Color: nectarine-tinted light brown
Smell: restrained, but balanced. Definitely some caramel sweetness, with wood spice accents and a bit of tartness.
Taste: nice tangy sweetness on entry - there are definitely some tart red apples showing through. The midpalate picks up a little bit of barrel char and some gentle baking spice flavors (cinnamon, cloves). The finish is balanced between sweetness and wood spice, with just a hint of tart apples on the fade.
Overall: for me this is a solid B-/B whisky. Like most Canadian whiskies I've experienced, it's very well balanced and will offend no one. The tart apple note is pretty unique, but also rather subtle and fleeting. There's not a huge depth of flavor here, but it's an enjoyable sipping experience.
