White Horse

White Horse
"Fine Old" Blended Scotch Whisky
Aged for a minimum of 3 years
40% ABV (80 proof)
~$25

Color: light golden brown

Smell: soft and approachable, with a very subtle Islay influence (Lagavulin is listed as included in the blend, though what portion is unclear). I get some malt, a little oak influence (vanilla and spice), slight nuttiness, and the smallest hint of smoke. It's nice, but it's very mild.

Taste: a bit of a let-down. There's a little honey sweetness on entry, the midpalate contains a hint of oak influence, and then it basically disappears. It finishes very short, with just the tiniest hint of smoke reminding you that you just had a sip of Scotch. It's not harsh at all - you can drink this straight - but there's not a lot to appreciate in terms of flavor.

Overall: it's by no means an abject failure - this would be fine for mixing and even drinking over ice or straight. That said, in the budget Scotch category, I would highly recommend Islay Mist 8 Year over this any day. "C/C+" for me.
