Elijah Craig
Small Batch
Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
12 years Old
47% ABV
paid $24
Color: medium brown, with a nectarine tint
Smell: wow, this smells wonderful. Tons of brown sugar/maple syrup sweetness, with vanilla and rich cinnamon spice. There's a very slight solvent note for me, but otherwise this smells like bourbons at least twice its price.
Taste: Not as much sweetness as the nose hinted at. Not bad at all, but just a slight step down. Cinnamon takes over here for me in a good way; lots of warming spice in the mouth, and then a bit more wood heat on the way down. Nice warming finish.
Overall: One of the best whiffs in the bourbon world. In an age where Bulleit 10 year and Michter's 10 year run you $50 and $100, respectively, the fact that you can score this for mid-$20s is pretty remarkable. I highly recommend picking this up...this will be a go-to bourbon on my shelf for years to come. The taste and finish are a step down from the nose, but this is really solid and brings all the great bourbon flavors to the table on the cheap.
